Special Collections/Archives house materials that need special handling or that may be irreplaceable, fragile, rare, etc. Materials documenting the history of Dixie College are also housed in Archives. This area is located on the southeast corner of the second floor

Special Collections/Archives is a closed stack area, meaning (1) the stacks are located in a locked room and you may not browse through these stacks as you do in other parts of the library, and (2) the materials may not be checked out and must be used under supervision in the Special Collections/Archives Reading Room. If you need materials from this area, an attendant will help you complete the appropriate forms and retrieve the materials for you.

Photocopy services are available in this area at $.15/page.

Materials in Special Collections, such as local histories or journals, are cataloged and can be located using the iPac (online public access catalog). Materials in Archives, such as the Dixie State College of Utah documents, are not cataloged and must be accessed with staff assistance through printed finding aids available \ in the Reading Room.

Special Collections/Archives services are available upon request Monday-Thursday, 1:00pm-5:00pm and Friday, 1:00pm-4:30pm, with staff assistance.

Special Collections Closed Stacks

The following types of materials are located in Special Collections:

• art books needing special handling-i.e., loose plates, high cost, irreplaceable
• books documenting the local history, geology, geography, etc. of Southern Utah (especially Washington County) and the Arizona Strip, including diaries, journals, etc. of area pioneers and local people
• books containing Utah and Native American (especially Ute, Paiute and Navajo) histories, etc.
• books published by Dixie State College of Utah faculty and staff

Archives Storage Area

The following types of materials are located in Archives:
• materials documenting the history and daily workings of Dixie State College of Utah, e.g., past presidential papers, yearbooks, catalogs, commencement programs, etc. dating from 1913
• local oral histories, diaries, and journals, e.g., audio tapes, transcriptions, microfilm
• unpublished papers, articles, manuscripts, correspondence, scrapbooks, etc.
• photographs
• bound and microfilm copies of The Dixie Sun and Washington County News
