Banned Books List Why Were These Books Banned? Banned Books Web Links Quotes about Censorship Throughout the world, books are still being banned, challenged, and suppressed for a variety of reasons. The American Library Association's Code of Ethics states, "We uphold the principles of intellectual freedom and resist all efforts to censor library resources." Although certain materials may be objectionable to one person or group, we think it is important to realize that other materials which we cherish might be equally as abhorrent to another group. It is our belief that open access to information is the cornerstone of an academic library and strive to provide a variety of materials and viewpoints. In celebration of the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States and America's freedom to read, we bring you a list of books which have been banned, challenged, or suppressed. The purpose of this list is to inform you of books which have been the recipient of such actions.
